Meet in the Old Contemptibles around 5.30pm - celebrate May Day even if Rog does not turn up!!!
Open to suggestions
Chap and Sim arrive promptly at 5.30pm for the start of the May day session. We were soon joined by Phil and Tone initially and then Dave and Nige later in the proceedings. Phil's 'Thursday Night drinking club' mate Steve also joined us, but no sign of Rog. We got stuck into a few ales whilst hearing of Phil's 'near death' experiences on the top of Ben Nevis and other tales. Phil and Chap also decided to sample the pork pie and beer chutney that was on offer, and well worth it.
Next port of call was the Bar du Vin. Apparently the last time the chaps had tried to get in this place it was closed for a private party. No such problem this time so we dived in for a couple of quick beers amongst the wine cellar and cigar rooms in the hotel basement. However, try as we might to drink enough ale, the chap behind the bar said they were closing early as there were not enough punters in that night.
The chaps lobbed off to Edmunds as the final port of call. A few more ales were consumed here, but the chap numbers started to dwindle as the night wore on. In the end, Chap, Phil and Nige were kicked out of Edmunds about 1.15am after supping a few more beers and putting the political world to rights. We ended up down the Royal curry house on Smallbrook Queensway till well after 3.00am, finally arriving home around 3.45am after waiting ages for a taxi.
