The weather was again set fair for the annual Sim & Di BBQ at Dorridge. Phil who had maintained that he would not be attending this year, could not resist the lure of the Dorridge park rounders in attempt to re-gain his once legendary hero status. We all met up at Moor Street station and joined up with Rog and Kim - yes making a guest appearance after a number of years absence!!, on the train.
Arriving at Sims around 3.30pm with beers in tow we had a quick snifter before heading off to the park. Sim decided to make things easier as the pitch would be slightly smaller and a soft ball would be used. Not sure if this really helped. Two team were selected and headed off once more in to the fray. A mandatory beer break was required between innings as things were fairly level at the half way point. The second innings proved to be a more one-sided affair with team 2 having to declare otherwise we would be still playing now!!. For once Phil and Alex failed to live up to expectations as Sue (from Castle Bromwich gardens) and her husband Paul walked away with the prizes for best man & woman. It was then time to head back for the evenings festivities.
Once again Sim & Di put on and excellent spread including a new butchers being used for the BBQ food. Chap (BFG) provided his usual culinary skills to keep the large number of punters happy food wise whilst plenty of grog was being consumed, must have been a record turn-out. Editors note - see Rog's Face-Book page for the BFG reference.
The post BBQ sport was garden darts. The format was to eliminate the person with the lowest score at each round. With 4 darts each and a total of 200 points being the maximum score. The game went on for quite some considerable time but ended up with a Chap vs Steve holly final. With Dave 'listen Tony Green' Fish providing the Bullseye type commentary the tension mounted as Steve hit 150 with his 4 darts. Chap scored 20 with his first but then produced a legendary final 3 arrows of 50 each to grab the trophy (well book) firmly with both hands, sending the crowd, well 'listen to Tony' Dave into raptures.
Another cracking day with good company, fine food, ale & weather - here's to next year.
