Simber's Birthday session 24.03.07

Plan for the day

For the early birds - The Old Fox on Hurst Street to watch some of the cricket - England v Kenya from 3.00pm.

4.45pm - 8.30pm - Poppy Red in the Arcadian to watch England lose to Israel in the Euro championships.

9.00pm - onwards - somewhere to drown our sorrows.

Review

The day started as planned with Simbers and Ian being joined by Chap, Tone and Dave early on in the Old Fox, with Phil arriving later in the afternoon. Only problem was that there was no cricket on in the OF so we had to make do with making polite conversation about Cricketing murders, British summertime and other various topics of conversation which were interspersed by drinking plenty of Pure Gold, Carling and Worthy's. It also gave us an opportunity to have an emergency meeting of the WATN committee to discuss Rog's lack of attendance to recent sessions with pathetic 'Church Bazaar' type excuses once used by Syrup!!!! e.g. the caravan!. It was unanimously agreed to issue him with a yellow card about future non-attendance.

Phase 2 of the plan - off to Poppy Red in the Arcadian centre to watch the match. Here we met Jo & her mate who had reserved us front row seats for the big screen - only problem here was that the Colonel had cocked-up on the TV front as PR does not do Sky!!!. We necked a swift beer whilst Phil did a quick reccie of the Arcadian centre to find a suitable alternative.

Plan B - O'Neill's - we managed to blag a table to settle down and watch the match whilst consuming Guinness (Red & Black versions), Carling & Cider as by this time Nige had joined the proceedings. Jo also arrived around half-time. Again England flopped to a 0 - 0 draw against a mediocre Israel opposition with most people who were there for the match losing interest come the second half. It seemed the Chaps 'Corners' competition provided the main entertainment of the night with Phil winning the pot (I think??).

After the footy we made a sharp exit back to the Old Fox - this was meant to be for one, but ended up the last port of call for most of us. By this time the Everards Tiger was back on and this was supped in great quantities along with other various ales whilst discussing the dismal England performance amongst other topics.

Simbers made the first move for home and then Dave, Phil, Nige and his cousin headed for somewhere else promising to text Chap of their location - .............................. I'm still waiting for the text message, must have got lost in the ether!!!. Ian departed for his last train, leaving Chap, Tone and Jo to neck a couple of quick shorts before heading home.
