Chaps St. George's Day session 21.04.07

Plan for the day

Meet in the Old Royal around 5.30pm

7.30pm - wherever the Charging White Beer Stead takes us !!!!!!

Review

An impromptu session arranged due to the lack of other events going on. The Chaps met up in the Old Royal around 5.30pm. Tone, Phil and Simbers followed quickly by Nige, Chap, Dave, Louise and Rog (who has now had his yellow card rescinded for finally making an appearance!!). Plenty of ale was consumed whilst watching a bit of the Manure v Villaboro game on Sky. After the footy we sampled a bit of the England v Windies World cup cricket - a dead match really and with the Windies posting 300+ it looked like an all too depressing end to England's World Cup exploits.

Time to depart to a new venue and with the Chaps been a bit undecided of where to go, we ended up in the Shakespeare on Temple Street. They usually have some good beer on here, but the selection was limited so we had a swift pint whilst sitting outside before moving on.

Again with the Chaps being a bit indecisive, we wobbled along to a watering hole of the past, the Yard of Ale. This place proved to be stuck in a time warp of when the chaps used to meet up in the late 80's. Nothing has changed (apart from the world cup footy machine being replaced by a quizzie!!). Here plenty of beers were drunk whilst watching an exciting climax to the cricket - England eventually winning by 1 wicket. This was interspersed  with a few 'defeats' by the quiz machine. Unusually for a pub in town, the Yard shuts at 11.00pm so the Chaps made their way to alternative venues - Simber's departed for the train, Dave, Nige, Phil & Louise left for ??? (the Old Pen & Wig), whilst Chap, Rog & a rather drunken Tone headed for Shah's, where Tone did a Bondbez and decided to get the wine in. However, this did complement the usually good food.

Chap (the short & concise!!)
